Oh cool, so like, piece of shit corporations can just mow down many more forests, rainforests and shit under the guise "but but we got this thing from scientists where we can replace the trees with these cages!". Fucking hell.

I praise the breakthrough but I don't think it's going to be carried out as intended.

That's a fundamental flaw I am seeing with the fediverse, least some instances while understanding it's not exclusive to just here. When the head of a community isn't around, it's free game for those to shit all over it unanswered. It's frustrating and I had wished there would have been some plans to have backup individuals capable of upholding the values of the community to prevent it from falling down or into the wrong hands.

The fediverse is supposed to be a representative of an alternative escape for those tired of the centralized networks of social media. When we're dealing with cases like these, it just makes everything look weak and unattractive to would be newcomers just beginning to understand the alternatives of the fediverse.

I would apply myself but really I can admit that I might not always be around either and knowing people are facing issues, it sucks.

This is probably a good thing. No, really, it is. Think about where you could best spend that money and the hobbies you'll embrace than coming online to try and integrate with a totally fractured society on display when it comes to the internet.

That's sounding like a feasible option. I've thrown myself back into Lemmy itself because I can't take the constant breaking of Kbin and seeing so much potential just trashed about in instances like this.

Can KBin not like, freak out at any turn when surfing on it? (kbin.social)

I forced myself to go back a little to Reddit recently. Because while I endorse and love the existence of the Fediverse, I can't in good conscience, tolerate the instability of it. Any other time I go somewhere, I'm met with a page that says KBin is working on resolving issues, then I go somewhere else and it's fine....

Or moderators.

Like, how discouraging must it be for them, to learn now that the CEO made $193 million while they do all of the work and maintaining for free?

But we'll figure out the shills though in time, the ones who'll stay. The ones who'll find it rewarding to be corrupt pieces of shit.

"We can't trust them with our children:" A Meta engineer saw his own child face harassment on Instagram. Now, he's testifying before US Congress (techxplore.com)

Arturo Béjar, known for his expertise on curbing online harassment, recounted to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg his own daughter’s troubling experiences with Instagram. But he said his concerns and warnings went unheeded. And on Tuesday, it was Béjar’s turn to testify to Congress....

snownyte,
@snownyte@kbin.social avatar

It makes me question - did it really take for these harassments to happen to his family for him to finally testify? I mean, we have an insurmountable level of evidence for 15 years now, about how bad and amplified online harassment has gotten through social media.

And, trying to reason with a sycophant like Mark is going to be a waste of time so I think he shouldn't have bothered. Unless it's about money, Mark won't care. Look at how FB functions these days, it takes like some 6 - 7 clicks to deactivate your account when it should be 3 at the least. Notifications are delayed. You get fed posts from your friends that are treated like new but have been seen and are old. Live support is non-existent, they rely on a half-assed wiki portal of their own to go through to solve problems.

Need I also point out, today's Congress is the worst Congress you can have when it comes to talking to technological problems with. Unless the social media platforms plays in their party's favor for re-election purposes, they aren't going to lift a finger to do fuck all about these problems.

snownyte,
@snownyte@kbin.social avatar

Why Are We Doing This?

Because Mark needs more money

And here I thought all of the posts I've read of people projecting hard on FB charging for it's service were all full of shit. They were full of shit until now. It's going to make it's way into America, but I don't think it'll dent Americans from avoiding it. After all, Twitter is charging people $1 now to use it to combat "bots" and I doubt that has slowed anything down. Meta will probably do the same, Americans will be mad for about a week, but pay it anyways because that's the new American Way and everything will be brushed under the rug.

Fucking wonderful. I've been wondering lately why it is that I've been so depressed, it's because we haven't been in the best days of the internet since 2007/2008.

This is like asking if whether or not KBin or Lemmy will be on the same levels as Reddit/Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp/Twitter within a year.

The answer is no, not yet, it'll take time and it'll have to be one thing at a time.

Politician would definitely win. You have to really whore yourself out to be even remotely likeable if you want votes. You have to spend like crazy campaigning. You have to go around from town to town, actively making promises you know you won't keep. You lie your face off in every debate you're in.

Then if you finally reach a position, it's literally like a cushy job with, somehow, the bare minimum requirements. The worst you can do is just not fulfill your promises but then again, you lied enough anyways so what does it matter? You could get into trouble with authorities but again that depends on position and some political positions give you diplomatic immunity and if you're in one of those, then go ahead and break nearly all the laws short of killing people.

Politicians' key things to do is just talk, write on paper, sit for prolong periods to vote on things and basically just rely on other staff to do all of the dirty work for you. All at the expense of those they govern.

What questions do you hate being asked and why? (kbin.social)

I hate it when people on social media, dare ask questions when you know they're fishing for personal information/ammo on people to exploit. Like asking for people's dark secrets. Why do you want to know? Is there a fetish to this? Nobody is going to be dead serious, they're just going to give softball answers and why should they...

Doom-scrolling.

Life and the world isn't that bad. Like, in some parts it is, but people need to understand that you alone cannot exactly control everything on how they work. They're going to happen anyways. The media has, for decades, successfully ingrained people's minds and mentalities to believe everything must be bad by the minute and to always expect the worse.

But if you stop doom-scrolling for prolonged periods of time and realize this, things aren't as bad as projected.

And how bastardized their perspective on social activities and being in public can get.

Masturbate and consume porn too much, next thing you know, you're gazing at people's asses, crotches and breasts imagining all sorts of fantasies you'd like to do involving them.

People expect sex within the first date. It could get worse from there.
